Irish super star singer/songwriter Gavin James has a top 20 hit on the USA’s Adult Top 40 music chart with “Hearts On Fire” and from the very opening you can hear its link to 1982’s A Flock of Seagulls “I Ran So Far Away” despite that the former looks and sounds dated, and the latter, new and fresh.
“I Ran So Far Away” is new wave, vague and abstract while “Hearts On Fire,” if not light-hearted and charming, is at least a benign and plaintive take on a serious topic i.e. how to keep connected; it was inspired by James “being on the road a lot… and trying to maintain relationships with friends and family…”
