“This song, while sounding like the most romantic song I’ve ever written, is about acceptance as well. The lyrics, ‘I’m gonna love you knowing we don’t have forever’ is about how it’s more important to have had the chance to love than to stay in love.”
That’s a pretty profound observation from 27 year old singer/songwriter Ashlyn Rae Willson, aka Ashe, about her newest release, “Till Forever Falls Apart,” a collaboration with singer/songwriter/producer/actor Finneas O’Connell (Billie Eilish’s older brother).
The lyrics focus on the fun of it all, softening the finality of the sorrow at the end.
I’m so glad I got to know ya
And
Oh, I know I had the best time falling into love
And
I swear that I’ll be yours forever/‘Til forever falls apart
Ashe’s voice is easy, clear, and appealing; Finneas’s masculine touch keeps the song from weepiness. Together their delivery is silky and slow; dreamy but not draggy.
Note how times have changed: In “Till Forever Falls Apart,” the story-line is what they had, not what they are losing. Compare that to Skeeter Davis’s 1963 “The End of the World,” a song so dramatic that it crossed over from Country to Pop, hitting #2 on Billboard’s all genre chart.
“Till Forever Falls Apart” is brand new, just starting to chart on both Top 40 and Adult Top 40.
(Finneas says their video was inspired by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, but they are much better singers than dancers, and they look more like Gilda Radner and Bill Murray doing a skit on Saturday Night Live.)
