We humans can, and sometimes do, transform ourselves: the ex-con who become a preacher, some slob who gets buff, a rock star who used to spell her name Ke$ha, but now spells it Kesha, and has a hit out called “praying,” about redemption and forgiveness and facing adversity with resilience and strength.

In 2009, Ke$ha’s debut, “Tik Tok,” was the best selling worldwide single of 2010 and topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for nine straight weeks.

Fast-forward eight years later and her sound and approach (at least on this song) is soulful, like Aretha Franklin’s “Ain’t No Way.”

“Praying” has really connected with Kesha’s fans, and it’s already in the top 25 on the Pop charts just a few weeks since its release.

Oh, sometimes, I pray for you at night

Oh, someday, maybe you’ll see the light

Oh, some ay, in the life you gonna get what

You give

But some things, only God can forgive

I hope you’re somewhere praying, praying

I hope your soul is changing, changing

I hope you find your peace

Falling on your knees, praying
