As a Boomer, I’m pleasantly surprised when a song that we listened to over 50 years ago is updated and re-recorded, so that it sounds similar to the original, but also modern and hip, and then it becomes a hit all over again.

Originally by Lesley Gore, in 1963, when she was 17-years old and her producer was the not yet world famous Quincy Jones, “You Don’t Own Me” has been redone by Grace, who delivers a very steamy rendition. A. Must. Listen. To.

This new version, featuring rapper G-Eazy, enjoyed international success when it was first released in March 2015, following Ms. Gore’s death. On this go round in the U.S. it’s gaining much more traction and exposure.

This is the second song in the past few months which pays tribute to a Lesley Gore song, and that made 2016’s Top 40 charts:  In April, Melanie Martinez had a hit with “Pity Party,” which sampled “It’s My Party”.

About Grace:

•  This Friday she’ll release her debut album ‘FMA’ –“Forgive My Attitude.”

•  She’s Australian.

•  She’s 19 years old.

•  From a family of professional singers.

There is plenty of attitude and sensitivity on both the new version and the original that Boomers grew up hearing on the radio every few hours.
