Before we get into the details of today’s song suggestions, let me admit that I have, at times, been smug about “my” generation’s music—that it was the “golden age” of the singer/songwriter, an era awash in creativity, producing musical heavyweights from Elvis to the Beatles to Bob Dylan, but then–when I listen to a song like “Adventure of a Lifetime,” by Coldplay–I do an immediate turnabout: there is great music out there today.
“Adventure of a Lifetime” is superstar band Coldplay’s newest single, and while it’s not as tempo driven as Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark’s “If You Leave” – a hit nearly 30 years ago—their sound resembles this new Coldplay effort: both songs have a British sensibility, fully produced sound, and a style that screams special and classy.
“Adventure Of A Lifetime” showcases the band’s tremendous songwriting skill, brilliant musicianship and their truly talented and charismatic lead singer Chris Martin, who doesn’t just sing a song, he molds it and takes it to remarkable places and does that with dazzling sensuality.
“Adventure of a Lifetime” is from Coldplay’s newest album, “A Headful of Dreams,” their 7th in a string of multi-million sellers, due out 12/4, and featuring guest vocalists such as Beyonce, Tove Lo and Merry Clayton, who was the amazing voice singing along with Mick Jagger on the classic “Gimme Shelter.”
Frankly, I knew more about Chris Martin’s love life (Gwyneth, Jennifer Lawrence) than his music, so getting this introduction to “Coldplay” was a nice surprise.
