Fellow Boomers, if staying connected to the zeitgeist is important to you, than I can’t stress enough how important it is that you connect with with Bruno Mars –that way you’ll be in tune (so to speak) with most everybody else in popular culture, who listens to music and watches the Super Bowl.  Mars captures the moment.

His newest, “Finesse,” gives off the same rhythmic energy and excitement as 1991’s Boyz 2 Men’s breakout hit  “Motownphilly.”  These are energizing songs–they make us feel bouncy and bright.

Mars readily admits that Elvis Presley was an early inspiration, and he learned his lessons well.  Mars is a force of nature, charismatic, talented, beautiful to look at– not moody and sexual, like Elvis was when he was young; rather, Mars, who 32-years old, is about exuberance, moving your body, feeling good.

“Finesse” features (fellow Grammy nominee) Cardi B, named “Rap Artist of the Summer” by the New York Times.  (She had a massive hit: “Bodak Yellow.”)

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure that if it weren’t for Bruno Mars, I’d probably never hear of or about Cardi B.  Released just 10 days ago, “Finesse” vaulted to  #18 on the Top 40 chart, and  #23 on Adult Top 40, so we’ll probably hear it played in restaurants and stores, and it’s always a good feeling to recognize what’s playing and who’s singing.  Keeps us connected to the culture.

The video for “Finesse” was inspired by the classic 1990’s TV show “In Living Color.”
