There might not be an Adele if there hadn’t been a Stevie Nicks 30-years prior and there might not be an Alice Merton if there hadn’t been an Adele.

Music, like all art forms, draws from the past, mixes it with the now, and voila! Something new.

Stevie Nicks’ powerful delivery in “Stand Back” was one of the stepping stones that leads us to Alice Merton’s debut hit “No Roots” –it’s intense, passionate, and raw –clearly influenced by Adele’s clipped, stabbing delivery, but that doesn’t diminish its’ own excellence.

And audiences are loving it! “No Roots” is charting on three radio formats: Adult Alternative, Alternative, and Adult Top 40.

Clever lyrics hit home, but aren’t “emotional” –more like a fist flying than an eye crying.

I like digging holes and hiding things inside them
When I’ll grow old I hope I won’t forget to find them

I like standing still, boy that’s just a wishful plan
Ask me where I come from, I’ll say a different land

I can’t get the numbers, and play the guessing name
It’s just the place that changes, the rest is still the same

Alice Merton is 24-years old, was raised in Canada, and now lives in Germany, where she was born.
