Stargate is two world-famous Norwegian record producers and hit makers who grew up listening to Euro pop—they readily admit that Abba was their inspiration; today the duo work with the A-list:  Rihanna, Beyonce, Shakira, Katy Perry—creating an identifiable/signature sound that combines pop melodies and hooks.

Even though they broke big over 10 years ago, they are just now releasing their very own single–“Waterfall”–featuring two of the hottest names in music, Pink and Sia.

In less than a month the song has gained enough traction to chart on both Adult and mainstream Top 40 radio.

If you let your mind wander, and increase the tempo, you can draw a line from “Waterfall” to 1987’s Company B’s pop/dance smash “Fascinated” –there’s a melodic thread that runs through the hook of both productions.

Both Pink and Sia are borderline performance artists.  Remember when Pink performed at the Grammys a few years ago, hanging from a trapeze and climbing a rope?

Sia is even edgier; completely hiding her face with a wig, when she recently guested on James Cordon’s  “Carpool Karaoke.”

These are niche pop songs that lean towards edgy, dance-club-synth, with simple, repetitive lyrics.
