Remember Laura Branigan sizzling through 5+ minutes in 1984’s “Self Control?”
That’s how Pink is today. She just inhabits the song, goes beyond the constraints of lyrics and music, singing as if a CD couldn’t fully convey her intensity—–she sucks all the air out the room.
Her last album was in 2012, following the birth of her daughter, Willow. Now Pink is releasing her newest album, and credits little Willow as the inspiration for the first single “Just Like Fire,” which is poised for mega airplay, downloads, and streams because it’s also the theme for the upcoming Disney film “Alice Through The Looking Glass” starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway. The film opens May 27th, but you’ll likely hear “Just Like Fire” prior to that.
The lyrics for each of these songs, “Self Control” and “Just Like Fire,” are– poetic? Imaginative? Artistic License? Some of the sentences make sense (to me) some of the time, and some of the lyrics are like an abstract painting using words instead of paint: make of it what you will.
