Music is the glue that holds the Boomer generation together, and a large chuck of that soundtrack is owned by the Eagles, whose co-founder, Glenn Frey, passed away earlier this week– tragic news that stunned a world already shell shocked by the recent losses of David Bowie and Natalie Cole.
The tributes continue to roll in, radio stations air the biggest of the Eagles many hits, and Netflix offers “The History of the Eagles” one of the great documentaries.
The emotional, touching and bitter-sweet “It’s Your World Now” doesn’t rank as one of their biggest or well-known hit songs, but it’s the last song written by Glenn Frey and Jack Tempchin and is truly fitting at this moment—–so much so that the song’s lyics are posted on the Eagles website as their official tribute to Frey:
The curtain falls
I take my bow
That’s how it’s meant to be
It’s your world now.
Don Henley points to the lyrics “be part of something good, leave something good behind” as the essence of the album (from 2007’s “Long Road Out Of Eden”).
Glenn Frey left us so much that was good and we can only be grateful and say thanks for the music and the memories.
A beautiful tribute and song.
