This has been a big month for singer/songwriter/producer Rodney Crowell.
On Aug. 10th he was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall Of Fame.
On August 15th he released “Texas,” his newest album, featuring an “all star cast:” Vince Gill, Willie Nelson, Lee Ann Womack, Ronnie Dunn, Lyle Lovett, Ringo Starr, Billy Gibbons ( of ZZ Top) and Steve Earle.
Last week The Academy Of Country Music honored Crowell with its prestigious “Poets Award.”
Also in August: Crowell’s birthday. He turned 69-years old on Aug. 7th.
The album includes a moving tribute to Crowell’s mentor, the late Guy Clark, with Nelson, Womack and Dunn doing back up on this new version of Clark’s 1983 “Uncertain Texas,” renamed for this album as “Deep In The Heart Of Uncertain Texas.”
Crowell is still the quiet storm that he always has been, one of the album’s highlights is this rocker with Billy Gibbons. (below).
Thanks For acknowledging Rodney Crowell’s influence and contributions. Have loved his songs and his singing dating back to his days playing with Emmy Lou Harris and The Hot Band, That debuted at San Francisco’s boarding house back in the mid- 70s. They were two of the early voices of Americana. Hope folks will also check out the trio of recent releases, starting with The Houston Kid, that have become known as The Texas Trilogy.
I know how feel! Rodney has always been one of the best—and I saw him with Emmy Lou at the Boarding House, too!
Bruce.. thanks so much for the great feedback, comment and recalling that great show with Emmy Lou in San Francisco. Wonderful to see Rodney honored and truly appreciated for his amazing body of work..that CONTINUES.
