Sunday night at 8 PM, ET/PT, CBS will air a tribute to soon-to-be 90-years old Berry Gordy. The show was taped at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles earlier this year.
Co-hosted by Smokey Robinson, the show features performances by Motown legends Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Martha Reeves and more, plus current hit-makers John Legend, Little Big Town, Meghan Trainor, Pentatonix and others.
A Berry Gordy/Motown tribute reminds us not only of the huge number of hits that impacted Boomer’s shared music memory but is also a summary of Berry’s extraordinary accomplishments and contributions to the pop-culture of the Boomer generation.
To get you in the mood for the star-studded TV gala, BoomerMusicUpdate recommends watching the 2002 documentary “Standing In The Shadows Of Motown”–about the Funk Brothers– even the 3 1/2 -minute trailer is thrilling!
