Just released today, this melange of the Doobie Brothers’ 1972 classic “Listen to the Music” features Dr. John, Buddy Guy, Jack Johnson, and over 200 musicians and singers from 25 countries, interspersed with original Doobie Brothers Tom Johnston (who wrote the song), Pat Simmons, and John McFee.
Produced under the auspices of Playing For Change, a non-profit whose motto is “dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world,” Playing For Change films and records “musicians performing in their natural environments”
This is a unique project, for a wonderful cause, and viewers/listeners can vicariously experience the love and joy that the performers put into it.
And, on another note: Tomorrow is officially “Record Store Day,” a world-wide event for fans, artists and thousands of independently owned records stores that want to “celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store.”
