60-years ago this week, “Cathy’s Clown,” by the Everly Brothers, was the #1 song on Top 40 radio. First wave Boomers (Zoomers) would be entering 9th grade in the Fall.
“Cathy’s Clown” was the Everly Brothers biggest hit: #1 for 5-weeks and selling upwards of 8 million records.
It’s a beautiful, immersive ballad with just enough rock to energize the experience, 2-minutes and 20-seconds of musical bliss–“just what the Dr. ordered” — a momentary yet welcome escape from a turbulent and unfamiliar national and global reality.
Enjoy.
That was awesome to listen to this morning!
Thank you!
The Everly Brothers, perfect harmony. This video is a live performance and the original Warner Brothers 45 is even better. I was entering the 9th grade in the fall when this was number one.
“Cathy’s Clown” sounds as good today as when it came out 60 years ago.
Thanks for reminding me of this great song.
