Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo, a holiday that  commemorates a minor Mexican military victory, and which is more popular here in the U.S. than it is in Mexico.

Sometimes known as  “drinko de mayo,” tequila is the drink of choice.

Flash back to “Tequila” the song.  It’s 1958, and L.A. band The Champs let loose with one of the greatest instrumental hits ever recorded. #1 for three mesmerizing weeks.

Here’s the band performing “Tequila” live on Dick Clark’s Saturday night “Beech Nut Show,” May 3, 1958, and also the original recording.

For the oldie aficionado:  “Tequila” was actually the record’s “B” side. The “A” side was “Train To Nowhere” –which is exactly where it went.
