Tower Of Power founder and sax player Emilio Castillo is a full-fledged Boomer (he’s 67), but in a recent interview, he said “I tell people it’s like I’m an 18-year old in my brain. Music keeps you young heart, and it’s been a great ride.”

That ride continues– their most recent release, “Soul Side Of Town,” is their first #1 hit, ever, taking the top spot on Billboard’s Jazz Albums and Contemporary Jazz Albums charts.

Released over the summer, it’s the band’s 17th studio album.

It’s been 50-years since the group created their funk-soul sound in Oakland, California; their first bona fide hit, 1972’s “You’re Still A Young Man” was followed by “So Very Hard To Go” that same year– and here they are, again, top of the chart, creating and grooving, giving the world their unique sound.
