Boomer Music Update has been a fan of Country trio Midland since the get-go; we appreciate their traditional yet modern, hip, sound, that’s true to the genre.

Two years and several hits later, Midland’s second album is scheduled for a late summer drop, and the first single is just out: “Mr. Lonely” –it’s fun, high energy, and perfect-for-summer and it beautifully marries old school with a contemporary Country approach.  Reminds us of Eddie Rabbit’s (1980) “Driving My Life Away” –snappy and light-hearted, Contemporary, yet also Country.

“Mr. Lonely” is about a clueless  good ol’ boy who charms all the girls, and then they take revenge. The video is a mini-movie, starring Dennis Quaid (really) as the  hapless romeo.

Boomers may flash on Bobby Vinton’s 1964 sad and tender “Mr. Lonely”  but this song is the opposite:  it’s bar-band/long necks/ cowboy hats and boots.

No I ain’t Mr Right, I’m Mr-Right-Now
The one all the girls are talking about
The one and only, Mr Lonely
