On Friday John Mayer releases his new album, “Sob Rock,” and, already, Adult Alternative audiences are loving the first single, “Last Train Home,” lifting it to # #7 on Adult Alternative formats, and #34 on Adult Contemporary.
Mayer has woven a throwback 80’s flavor into this production, a la Bruce Hornsby and other acts of the era, but does
so with his signature smooth vocal style and musical originality–a singer/songwriter melding everything for contemporary tastes.
Even though the musical landscape constantly shifts, a well crafted song can, if given exposure, find its audience.
Great track with a catchy melody and chorus that’s hard to shake. Good call; Does remind me of Bruce Hornsby. Once the harmonies kick in, a bit like Toto, too. And, it sure doesn’t hurt to have Maren Morris on the track.
