The Kinks formed their band 55 years ago, riding the wave of the “British Invasion” with giant hits including “You Really Got Me,” “All Day And All Of The Night,” “A Well Respected Man,” and “Tired Of Waiting.”

The group went their separate ways for more than two decades but recently Ray Davies, the Kinks lead singer/songwriter/ guitarist, announced to the BBC that the band is getting back together, and, more importantly, will be back in the studio to record a new album. (No completion date has been announced.)

In the summer of 1966 The Kinks’ “Sunny Afternoon” became a smash hit, a book and a musical, telling the story of the band, and used effectively in the film ‘The Boat That Rocked,’ about a “pirate” radio station beaming the hits to Britain.

The Kinks were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
